Why we homeschool

January 30, 2018

So we're about a month in....WE LOVE IT.... Ok it's intense at times but totally works for us.

I decided about two years ago to take my oldest son out of school. In a nutshell we felt he needed a lot more nurture than he was getting in school. I wanted to be able to have more one on one with him. He needed to be built up in confidence and home-schooling seemed to allow this to happen. He is also a typical boy, he loves to runnnnnnn about and rarely sits still so we decided to go with this and encourage him to work hard in the mornings and then hit the tracks around our home on his BMX in the afternoons. He loves it ,we love it.

The plan was to keep my younger boys in school but after Caleb got poorly and if you have read my last blog post, you would know he was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. After sending him back to school, I spent my days agonising about Caleb getting poorly and about him picking up the latest germ. This went on for a few months until I realised I wanted normality so much that it was at Caleb's expense as I watched him fall asleep at 3.15pm everyday completely worn out by his day...his life... I'd talked about home-schooling so much but wasn't brave enough to step out and take the plunge....I'd previously secretly judged people that home-schooled ,wondering why the world they would choose to do that! I have NO regrets other than my house is SUFFERING but my boys are thriving! I'm not against school. I used to be a teacher and for some families it's awesome and it works!

We're still finding our feet, working out what works when we are all at home but I'm accepting this is where we are at.

right now.
